DEFINITIONS: CHRIST

“CHRIST” WOULD SUFFER AND RISE FROM THE DEAD

Go to beginning of section

In the book of Acts, we read that Christ suffered and rose from the dead, and would be a light unto the Gentiles:

“Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come: That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles.” (Acts 26:22-23)

The language in this passage is systemic to the incarnation. Isaiah predicted that the Messiah would be a “light unto the Gentiles.” This is God incarnate in human flesh. It is God in the man who shed His blood that will return to the earth to be a light to all men. We also read that "Christ" suffered. Once again, the language of this text reveals that the term “Christ” must be defined, as God incarnate—not Deity apart from the incarnation.
