According to
the apostle Paul, the Spirit of God is the Spirit of
Christ:
“But ye are not in the flesh, but in
the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any
man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ
be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but
the Spirit is life
because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of him that raised up
Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the
dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that
dwelleth in you.” (Romans
8:9-11)
Paul
wrote that the same Spirit of God that dwells in us is the Spirit of
Christ. Of course, the Holy Spirit can be called the “Spirit of
Christ” because the Son of Man is the mediator of God who dispenses
the Holy Spirit through His blood.
However,
Paul also personally equates the Spirit of God with Christ.
We read:
“If
Christ be in you…”
Of
course, the term “Christ” means “the Anointed One” or the
Messiah—God incarnate in human flesh. Since it is not possible for
the man Christ Jesus to literally dwell in our hearts, Paul
identifies the person who is Christ as the Spirit of
God! Since Jesus taught that the Father dwells in Him (John 14:10,)
the connection is obvious. God is one Spirit, and Jesus is the
incarnation of this Spirit in human flesh.
