In
the book of Galatians, the apostle Paul called the Holy Spirit the
“Spirit of the Son”:
“But when the fulness of the time was
come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the
law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive
the adoption of sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent
forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba,
Father. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a
son, then an heir of God through Christ.” (Galatians
4:4-7)
According
to the apostle Paul, the “Spirit of the Son” is what God sends into
our hearts. Certainly, it is possible that Paul used this
terminology because the Son of Man is God’s mediator who dispenses
the Holy Spirit. However, since other passages (examined in this
section) equate the Holy Spirit personally with Christ,
Paul may have simply taught that the one God of Israel (who is
Spirit and was incarnate in Christ) is the same
person!
We
read that we are an “heir of God through Christ.” Since “Christ”
means “the Anointed One” or “Messiah,” Paul wrote that we are heirs
of God’s Spirit through the Son of Man, the human being who is the
one God in a lesser, human form.
Remember,
Jesus said “the Father dwells in me” (John 14:10.) Since the Holy
Spirit is God “breathing” His own essence into time and
space, the one who was incarnate in Christ does literally
dwell in your hears--as Paul wrote.
