In
the book of Philippians, Paul called the “Holy Spirit” the “Spirit
of Jesus Christ”:
“What then? notwithstanding, every
way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I
therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice. For I know that this
shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of
the Spirit of Jesus Christ, According to my earnest expectation
and my hope, that in
nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as
always, so now also
Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by
death.” (Philippians
1:18-20)
The
“supply” of the Holy Spirit is the “Spirit of Jesus
Christ.” If the Holy Spirit were a different person of God, why
would Paul use this language? Would he not reverence the so-called
“third person of the trinity” by calling Him by His proper name?
Instead, we discover evidence that Paul believed that the same
God that was incarnate in Christ now dwells in our hearts—the
Spirit of God the Father—the only true God of heaven and
earth!
