THE DEFINITION OF GOD
GOD DOES NOT CHANGE
Go to beginning of section

God is Spirit, and He never changes. To “never change”  This aspect of God is called “immutability.” The prophet Malachi wrote:

“For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.” (Malachi 3:6)

Since God does not change, He is “timeless.” He inhabits eternity, viewing the past, present and future at the same time. The Bible teaches that God is “everlasting”:

“But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith.” (Romans 16:26)

In the Greek, the word “everlasting” means “without beginning or ending.” God has no beginning, and will have no end. He dwells beyond the boundaries of time itself. He is the “immutable beginning and end,” dwelling where creation began, and will end. He said:

“I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” (Revelation 1:8)
