“For my thoughts are not your
thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. 9 For as
the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than
your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah
55:8-9
God’s “thoughts”—or His
“consciousness”—is higher or greater than our thoughts. What is the
ratio between God’s thoughts and your own? A million to one? A
billion to one? A “zillion” to one? Whatever mathematical equation
can express the disparity between our thoughts and the thoughts of
the infinite God, it only begins to reveal how superior God’s
consciousness is to our own.
Because God is timeless, He knows the end
from the beginning. He exists in an unchanging state of being,
knowing everything all at once. The vastness of the thoughts of God
must be taken into consideration, in order to do a proper exegesis
of Scripture. God cannot be informed, commanded, or tempted. Yet,
He did experience these things in Christ—the one God of
Israel in the lesser form of a man.
